The Smithsonian National Zoo has announced that a new pair of panda bears will be coming to the Zoo at the end of October 2024.
According to the National Zoo, after a six month hiatus , the China Wildlife Conservation Association has agreed to loan the two pandas to the Zoo for ten years in exchange for an annual fee of $1 million. The new pair consists of a 2-year-old female named Qing Bao and another two-year-old male named Bao Li. Most notable is Bao Li who apparently is the son of a former National Zoo resident named Bao Bao.
The pair will be onboard FedEx for a special charted flight from China to Washington, DC, on Monday, October 21. The flight dubbed the ‘Panda Express, will be transporting three-year-olds Qing Bao (female) and Bao Li (male) from their Dujiangyan, Southwest China residence to the National Zoological Park.
