Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge Will Light Up In Pink To Celebrate Cherry Blossom Festival

The eagerly awaited annual Cherry Blossom festival starts on Sunday March 20th, and numerous events have been lined up.

The  festival  returns  in-person, after a 2-year hiatus due to the COVID pandemic. This year marks the 110th the anniversary  of the festival, and coincides with the first day of spring 2022.

According to the organizers, a unifying visual campaign billed City in Bloom will run across D.C. and neighboring areas,  including National Harbor in Maryland and Mosaic District and National Landing in Virginia and beyond. The following areas have been added as part of the City in Bloom 2022:

  • The Frederick Douglass Memorial Bridge will light up in pink over the Anacostia River starting March 21 through Petalpalooza on April 16.
  • The Hecht Water Tower will shine as a pink beacon over D.C.

The D.C. region will once again welcome spring in a big, beautiful, blossoming way. The area will be covered in all things pink as local businesses and organizations pinkify their buildings and landmarks for City in Bloom, an award-winning Festival tradition starting Sunday, March 20 -National Cherry Blossom Festival
