Your DC Driver's License Could Soon Be Digital

DC Council is considering  a Bill that if passed will allow for residents to opt for digital driver licenses in the future.

The bill which was introduced by Chairman Phil Mendelson seeks to digitize and store driver licenses in a software app to be easily  displayed, retrieved and shared when needed.

The DMV is ready to implement the legislation immediately and already has an app designed to allow presentation of these credentials in an electronic format. – council member Mary Cheh

More than 20 states including Maryland have introduced digital driver licenses in 2021.
