Bens Chili Bowl Celebrates 65 Years In DC

DC’s iconic restaurant, Bens Chili Bowl this week celebrated its 65th anniversary at its historic U street location.

In attendance were a host of dignitaries, celebrities and local gogo  bands. For over 65 years, Ben’s has been a staple in Washington, DC serving locals, celebrities, presidents, and tourists from around the world. Ben’s Chili Bowl began as a dream of Ben & Virginia Ali, and with their $5,000 life savings, the young couple first opened the doors of their now iconic restaurant on August 22, 1958.

Guests were treated to a free meal that included beef dog, turkey dog, half smoke, veggie dog, chips and drinks.

Ben’s Chili Bowl offers DC residents more than just good food, it is an institution that inspires black business owners to win big for DC. We are grateful to Ben’s Chili Bowl for making DC proud for 65 years. – Mayor Muriel Bowser.

ChooseDC would like to wish our friends at Ben’s Chili Bowl a happy anniversary.
