Lidl Has Opened Its First DC Store At Skyland

German discount supermarket chain Lidl Stiftung & Co. KG, popularly known as “Lidl” this week opened its first store in DC. The new store is located at the Skyland Town Center in ward 7, east of the river.

According to Lidl US, this is part of its ongoing expansion along the East Coast, to open new stores in Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, and Virginia. The company expects to sell its award-winning products in more than 100 stores and create more than 1,000 new jobs across nine states. The new store in DC is expected to provide DC residents with hundreds of jobs, while bringing in tax revenue for the District.

We are thrilled to be opening in Washington, DC and investing in Wards 7 & 8 with our beautiful store and incredible team. For us, serving the community begins with being part of the community and I’m very pleased we’ve built a team with more than 90 percent of our team members being from Wards 7 & 8. This Lidl Food Market is going to provide high quality, fresh food and groceries to the community at the best value around every day, and we look forward to bringing our approach to more areas of D.C., in Columbia Heights and Tenleytown, in the future. – Lars-Oliver Hamann, Lidl US Regional Vice President
