The Washington Spirit today won the US National Women’s Soccer League championship after defeating Chicago Red Stars in a thrilling match in Louisville Kentucky.
The championship win is a bitter sweet ending in the backdrop of a very challenging year marred by numerous match cancelations and the firing of former coach Kris Ward. The Spirit had earlier defeated OL Reign in their semifinal berth to secure a championship spot. Kelley O’Hara slotted the final goal in the 97th minute after getting a pass from Trinity Rodman to secure the victory for the Spirit.
Choose DC wishes to congratulate the Washington Spirit on this bitter sweet victory.
