The Washington Spirit defeated Bay FC by 2-1 in a thrilling 2024 home opener in front of 11,734 fans , the club record for a home opener match. This was the first-ever meeting between the Washington Spirit and Bay FC. The Spirit goals came from Croix Bethune and Hal Hershfelt.
The Spirit sealed their win in the 94th minute when Bethune slotted in a third goal making the Spirit win, the team’s sixth consecutive home opener win. The goal also helped Bethune join teammate Hal Hershfelt in the short list of Spirit players who have scored in their home debut.
