The Capital Bikeshare is set to roll out electric bikes this spring.
The bikeshare company has announced that 1,500 new e-bikes will hit the ground with technology that allows them to lock to public bike racks in addition to docking at stations. Each rider will be charged a flat $1 e-bike fee per trip in addition to standard usage fees. If an e-bike is docked to a public bike rack, riders will also get charged a $1 out-of-station fee.
Current equity members will receive a 1 year free membership extension and will not be charged usage fees for e-bikes, allowing riders to go farther, faster.
