Some DC Residents with Chronic Illness can now Exchange Prescriptions for Produce

A new innovative program, Produce Prescription Program (PRx) is currently being piloted in DC by Giant Foods in partnership with Dc Greens and federally qualified health centers to offer prescriptions for free produce in Ward 8.

PRx, which is born out of collaboration between DC Greens, Giant, DC Health, AmeriHealth Caritas DC and community clinics is designed to  offer prescriptions for free fruits and vegetables to qualifying shoppers.

Announcing the new innovative program, Giant Foods President Gordon Reid stated that, Giant Foods is excited to be bringing the Produce Rx program to local Alabama Avenue store and as a food retailer, it recognizes the important role it plays in the access to healthy foods and health education needs of the communities it serves.

Giant Food is excited to be bringing the Produce Rx program to our local Alabama Avenue store. As a food retailer, we recognize the important role we can play in the access to healthy foods and health education, and the program is certainly a natural fit with our ongoing efforts to support the health needs of the communities we serve.
