The annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place this weekend, from Saturday Junes 29th to Sunday Junes 30th at the National Mall.
According to the organizers, this year’s event celebrates the power of music to entertain, educate, inspire, preserve history, strengthen identity, and build community.
Some of the events lined up include, zine-making activities, and archiving demonstrations at the D.C. Music Preservation Pop-Up, and a concert featuring Ruby Ibarra, Quetzal featuring Alice Bag and La Marisoul, and Kokayi.
On Sunday, Smithsonian Folkways will tribute to Pete Seeger with The Bright Siders, Sonia De Los Santos, Dan & Claudia Zanes, and Elizabeth Mitchell and You Are My Flower. There will also be instrument workshop, with a grand finale by renowned Hip-hop pioneer Grandmaster Flash.
