Capital Bikeshare has removed its electric bikes from all locations, amid user safety concerns.
In a statement released on Sunday morning, the company stated that they’ve received reports from riders concerning abnormal braking on the front wheel.
We recently received a small number of reports from riders who experienced stronger than expected braking force on the front wheel. Out of an abundance of caution, we are proactively removing the electric bikes from service for the time being. We know this is disappointing to the many people who love the current experience — but reliability and safety come first.

According to Bikeshare, riders have taken thousands of rides and shared incredibly helpful and overwhelmingly positive feedback since it first deployed electric bikes last year.
In the meantime, the electric bikes will temporarily be replaced with pedal bikes.
